Supporting Refugee Women Rising’s Driver Education Program

The ACG Foundation awarded a grant to Refugee Women Rising's Driver Education program, which will support refugee women in Omaha, Nebraska who are learning how to drive. Through this grant, Refugee Women Rising will fully fund the program's operation and certify refugee women as driving instructors to help other refugee women learn how to drive safely. The grant and curriculum resources will help Refugee Women Rising provide much needed learning and engagement opportunities the organization would not otherwise be able to provide.

"AAA's generosity will help us to provide culturally sensitive driver education," said Pam Font-Gabel, Refugee Women Rising's Executive Director. "Driving is an empowering act that allows newcomers to find work, to attend classes, take care of their family and reduce social isolation. Accessible transportation is a vital step to ensuring equity in our community. This program will build women's independence."

Refugee Women Rising is a 501(c)(3) Nebraska nonprofit that collaborates with refugee and immigrant women to further themselves personally and professionally. Its practical driving education and culinary wellness programs exist to promote equal access and independence, while respecting cultural values and the right to self-determination.
